The Competition

The Dyno Challenge is a street-oriented, Ford-powered competition built for Mustang owners who have put in the work and want to prove it. Competitors will battle across two divisions, Power Adder and All Motor, covering the full spectrum of forced induction, nitrous, turbo, and naturally aspirated combinations. Each competitor receives three pulls on the dyno, with the single highest wheel horsepower number determining the winner in each class. The top five performers in each class will earn a spot on the official event leaderboard, and class champions will take home a $500 cash prize and a trophy. Second and third place finishers in each division will also be recognized with hardware on the podium.

Awards will be presented at Saturday’s official Mustang Week Awards Ceremony, making it a moment worth sticking around for.

Tuner School and VMP Performance: The Right People Running the Show

The Mustang Week Dyno Challenge would not be what it is without the right partners behind it. Tuner School, the presenting sponsor of this year’s competition, brings a level of credibility and expertise to the event that speaks for itself. As one of the most respected names in automotive performance education, their involvement signals that this competition is being run the right way, with a focus on accuracy, fairness, and the kind of environment where serious competitors can do serious work.

Equally important is who is operating the dyno itself. VMP Performance, one of the most trusted names in the Ford performance community, will be managing dyno operations and overseeing the competition from start to finish. If you want your pulls conducted with safety, precision and consistency, there is no better outfit to have in your corner. VMP’s presence alone should give competitors the confidence that every number posted on that leaderboard is legitimate.

The Rules That Keep It Honest

Each vehicle is allowed three runs maximum, with no tuning adjustments permitted between pulls. Cooldown periods of three to seven minutes will be directed by staff, and no refueling, ice addition, or performance modifications of any kind are allowed between runs. All vehicles must be Ford-powered, properly registered, and equipped with radial tires in good condition. Fuel must be pump gas, race fuel, or E85. Any competitor suspected of violating the rules is subject to immediate disqualification at the discretion of staff, and all decisions are final.

Competition days are split across Friday and Saturday, with time slots running noon to 8 pm on Friday and noon to 5 pm on Saturday. Competitors will be assigned their day and time slot upon registration and must check in on the day of their event to confirm.

Not Competing? You Can Still Pull

One of the best aspects of the Mustang Week Dyno Challenge is that you do not have to be chasing a trophy to participate. For those who simply want to know what their car puts down without the pressure of a leaderboard, non-competitor entries are welcome. Simply check the Dyno Runs box when picking up your participant ticket and you get the same dyno time, the same VMP Performance-operated setup, and the same accurate, consistent results, just without the weight of competition on your shoulders. It is a fantastic opportunity to get a real, reliable horsepower number on your build in a controlled environment, operated by people who know these cars inside and out.
