    Default 69 MACH 1 project - Updated

Figured I would take some time to share the progress of the last few years of the restoration and upgrading of my 69 Mustang MACH 1.

About 5 years ago, I picked the car up and started working on it.

    Here was the starting point

Guess I havent done such a good job with updating my build over the years.

When I first got the car I upgraded the suspension, with new hardware and new bushings and lowered it about 3 in in the front and 4 in the back, for the look it has today. I alos upgraded to 13in Cobra Brakes and 10.5 Cobra Disc Brakes out Back.

I also partnered up with a couple of our sponsors for some additonal upgrades.

Out back some nice Kicker Hardware

And inside, I used some seat frames from an 85GT and used the TMI Sport seats with the MACH 1 patterned after orginals to give me a better feel and more adjustability than the stock seats ever offered.

So I figured I would update this thread with some updates I have done to the car over the last year and what I am working on for this year.
In 2012 I pulled the motor as it was burning some oil, so in looking at rebuilding the 390 I found that could upgrade to a stroker motor for not much more and have a solid foundation for the motor. I did a pretty mild build with a fairly small cam for the motor and out of the box stock aluminum heads. Its good for about 425hp.
Here is a pic of the new motor before install

I wasnít complete with the upgrade for MW 2012 so the car didnít make it down to the beach.
I did finish it up after then and brought it to the beach last year.
Here are a couple of pics from the beach

So as always I never one to leave anything alone.
The car is back in the shop for more upgrades

Converting from the old C6 to a TKO600 I pick up from Late Model Restoration.

    http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...d-Transmission

Also upgrading to power steering which I got from Gateway Classic Mustang

Also pulled the rear gear for an upgrade to taller gears and posi unit

And here is the final sneak peak, new Black Bullitts for a slightly different look.

I will work on updating progress on all of these as I get through each of these in the next couple of months. My plan is to have it ready to go for the 50th anniversary show in Charlotte in April.

Looking awesome Scott, this imo is the absolute pinnacle of the Mustangs, I would sell all my other toys to have another one.
Look forward to seeing it at Charlotte.

Thanks John. I would agree. I remember when my dad bought this car back in the early 90's. I just got my drivers license and wasn't able to drive it for a while but was always my favorite and honestly my dream car. He started selling off the other cars, and I pretty much told him if he sold that one, I would disown him..haha. Lucky for me he kept it and when I was able to work out a deal I bought it from him a few year ago and it has been a project ever since. It can certainly be a frustrating venture having one of these older cars, but it is worth it when I get it out and drive it.

So I got a chance to do a little more work on the MACH this weekend.

new Billet Flywheel and Superior PP and Clutch installed.

The installed the Quick Time Scatter Shield Bell housing.

Another shot of the TKO 600 from Late Model Restoration with the Modern Drive line Shifter. Relocates the shifter back and the left to help alignment in the console. Also going with a hydraulic Throwout Bearing set up.

    Tranny Installed.

Still need to finish up the rear tranny mount as nothing ever seems to be direct bolt on when modifying these older cars. Will keep updates coming as I finish the 5 speed and Power steering install.

The plan is to have it ready for the 50th. Right now I don't foresee that being an issue.

So with the addtion of power steering and AC to the car, one of the projects is to get some new brackets for the front of the motor to fit everything. I am running a vintage air AC kit with the sanden pump and with the Gateway PS rack, I am using a saginaw PS pump. After doing some research I found CVF brackets that will work for my application. A little tough to find brackets for FE motor so my choices are somewhat limited.

I still have a little bit of work to do to get the AC and PS pump pulleys to line up exactly, but they are close. Alternator side looks good so far.

Still need to clean up the wiring and fuel lines once I get everything finished up. But it is coming together.

I think I feel that is the other way around. Everyone brings their A game to MW, so I feel I need to as well.

So a bit more progress over the last couple of days.

I got the slave cylinder mounted for the hydraulic clutch. not much room for it between the brake booster and brake distribution block, but it fits. This is from underneath with the power steering rack mounted and hooked up to the new ididit steering column. Not much room for the headers, we will if I need to "adjust" them to make them fit...haha.

Got the linkage and clutch pedal mounted as well. 3 pedals should make this is a bit more fun to drive.

An inside picture of the new tilt Ididit steering column and Leccara steering wheel. Gives me enough leg room for using the clutch. Also got the shifter all buttoned up and console back installed. Its all coming together. Few more days of fine tuning a few things and should be ready to go.

My mature side tells me to drive the auto, my fun side tells me to have the 3...the fun side won. lol
Curious is the red mat insert an option?

Yes. Mach 1's had the red insert from the factory.

And my fun side definitely won out on this one. Auto was ok, but needed the OD more than anything so figured, why not...haha

With that smaller tilt wheel, I might actually fit in it enough to drive it now!! The car is looking good Scott!
