2017 Mustang Week Re-Cap

The Mustang Week Staff would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all they’ve done to help us make the 16th Annual Mustang Week an overwhelming success.  We realize that without volunteers, participants, and the sponsorship there is no way we would be able to continue hosting the largest annual Mustang event in the country.   It is always exciting to see participants moving around the different venues, interacting with each other and leading industry sponsors.   Mustang Week is different from any other event in the country.  Mustang Week is not merely a show.  If you attend all the scheduled events, you will see that Mustang Week is an “experience” that can be rivaled by no other weekend show.  Where else can you combine a beach vacation with all kinds of driving events and shows?  Only at Mustang Week!

Tuesday’s Meet-n-Greet drew over 800 Mustangs and SVTs and over 2,000 people to the Broadway at the Beach.  Each year the Meet-n-Greet continues to be a hit at the beginning of the week.  The line for the annual Mustang Week t-shirt stayed packed all day! The venue offered plenty of options and all that participated seemed to have a great time as this event continues to be a crowd favorite.

Wednesdays’ BFGoodrich Track Day at Myrtle Beach Speedway was great!  Just over 275 cars participated in both the Stifflers Speedway Fun Runs and the Gateway Classic Mustang Autocross.  Formula Drift star Vaughn Gittin Jr. made his way onto the track several times throughout the afternoon and added to the excitement.  Even with a rainy forecast, participants were able enjoy the track for most of the day.  The annual SVTPerformance Burnout Contest was rained out at the end of the day, but we hope to make up for it with a big turnout in 2018.   In all, just over 2,500 people took part as a driver or spectator at the Speedway.

Thursday morning was full of action as a large crowed turned out for the Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords Dyno Shootout hosted by ProDyno at the North Myrtle Beach Drag Strip.  Just as the dyno shootout was ending cars started making passes down the 1/8th-mile at NMB Dragstrip.  Just over 250 cars took part in the drag racing action and over 2,000 people attended.  The new dragstrip venue was less than a 20 minute drive from Myrtle Beach and the NMB Drag Strip crew worked hard to move cars quickly through staging lanes.  Mustang Week Staff and the Drag Strip owners have had multiple discussions on how to make that venue work well in the future.  All that were able to make it in and participate had a good time and we saw some really quick passes!

Friday’s annual Car Show, sponsored by Petty’s Garage, continues to be one of the premier Mustang shows on the East Coast.  The show was again completely sold out as we packed nearly 700 cars onto  the show field and inside the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.  Just over 10,000 people attended the show and the very first All Mustang Tradeshow that day and the surrounding lots were filled with Mustangs as far as the eye could see.

We finished out Mustang Week 2017 with the annual Cruise-In at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.  This is the event that started it all 16 years ago and this year didn’t disappoint.  Just over 2,500 Mustangs and SVTs and 8,000 people attended.  The threat of Hurricane Irma no doubt affected the turnout on Saturday, but the skies in Myrtle Beach were sunny and temps were very mild.  At mid-day, the Mustang Week Staff held the Car Show awards and annual Mustang Week raffle.  At the close of the day there were still many walking through displays as the week drew to a close.

The Mustang Week Staff would like to give a special “shout-out” to this year’s volunteers.  Without volunteers we simply could not handle each day’s events.  Volunteers endure the heat and sun and offer their valuable time for very little in return.  Many work multiple, if not all the events.  We are humbled and honored to call these volunteers friends and part of the Mustang Week family.  We can’t thank you enough for all you do.

The Staff is already hard at work planning for Mustang Week 2018.  We will continue to make changes to further the enjoyment and safety of each day’s event.  We hope that you will continue to join us at the ultimate Mustang experience.  Please keep an eye out for upcoming Mustang Week 2018 information.  Again, thank you for all you do in helping us make Mustang Week the year’s most anticipated event.
